I had the honor of doing a talk in Dusit Thani Mactan about the basics of Travel Photography using your smartphone. Super grateful for this opportunity!
Got the chance to do a quick photowalk around Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu resort as well. Will share the photos and the important hotel details down below. But before that, let me tell you how I got there and what happened during the event.
Spoke to Doctors Who Are Also Travelers
The talk was organized by the Gastro Diabetes Care Expert Club. They are a group of medical representatives promoting diabetes and gastrointestinal medication. This event was technically a doctors’ conference.
However, they didn’t want the night to be all about medicine and illnesses. The organizers also wanted to impart creative knowledge and skills to the attendees who were all doctors. And that is why, through a few referrals, they ended up inviting me to speak about travel photography there in Dusit Thani Mactan.
The doctors in the audience often travel to various places to do their job, attend conferences, and meet up with their peers in the field. During their downtime, they too want to explore the places they visit and take great photos for memory keeping and Instagram posting.
So I found myself welcomed by them and, of course, I was happy about that despite the usual nerves that accompany me during my speaking engagements. By the way, I don’t consider myself an expert because there is still so much to learn. However, just like how my mentors shared their knowledge with me, I also want to pay it forward.
GERD and Photography?
The night was divided into two talks. The first one was about GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease). Dr. Karen S. Batoctoy, a highly knowledgeable and respected medical professional, talked about the symptoms of GERD. She also discussed possible treatments and lifestyle management for patients.
All these were interesting to me because I, too, suffer from GERD-like symptoms, such as heartburn and hyperacidity. That was definitely an eye-opening talk and I am grateful that I got to listen to Dr. Batoctoy.
After her discussion, my turn to speak came. Ever since I joined my first photowalk in 2017, smartphone photography has taken me through so many adventures and beautiful places. Back then, I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me that I will have speaking engagements about phoneography.
But that is exactly what happened and I have now given several talks about the matter. Will be forever grateful to the people who appreciate my photos and the knowledge and skills I am able to share during my talks.
As for the details of my talk, perhaps I will write a separate blog about it. I also encourage you to attend one of my talks sometime. Or join the several photowalks and photoshoots we organize each year. Be awesome to talk about phone photography with you!
Dusit Thani Mactan – Wow What a Beautiful Place!
This was the first time I got to visit Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu resort and I was wowed the moment I got in! The whole hotel and resort is a mix of Thai and Filipino designs. You will feel relaxed the instant you step into their huge and welcoming reception area.
There’s also a bar right at the entrance where you can unwind, sip your favorite cocktail, and enjoy the gorgeous view framed by the large windows. And what a view that is!
The ocean is going to be right there in front of you. I was fortunate enough to arrive during the sunset so you can imagine my delight to just sit there and enjoy the golden glow of the setting sun. All that time, the light ocean breeze caressed my skin, reinvigorating my spirits.
Before the talk, my friends and I explored the place. We got to the pool area and if I didn’t have a speaking engagement to attend, I would have dived right in. The pool was so inviting and so large that swimming laps there would be no problem at all.
I also loved all the wooden elements used throughout the resort, which were echoed by the furniture giving you that natural and organic feel. And since I love architecture and symmetry, the beautiful lines and patterns at Dusit Thani Mactan gave me endless joy.

To get there, your best bet is to ride a taxi or a Grab car because the resort is somewhat isolated. That’s what makes it charming and relaxing though. It’s definitely worth the extra drive or ride.
Let’s Keep Traveling and Taking Photos!
Thank you very much to the Gastro Diabetes Care Expert Club and to the doctors for the opportunity to discuss a subject matter dear to my heart – smartphone photography and travel photography.
Dusit Thani Mactan was also a wonderful place to be in even just for a few hours. I definitely enjoyed taking photos there because there are so many picturesque corners. Do visit the resort or take advantage of their day use rate for a relaxing getaway.
Until the next adventure and photo-perfect moment! <3
